2009 Nissan GTR FIA-GT1
Nissan has just announced that we’ll be seeing the GT-R campaign in the FIA-GT1 category earlier than expected. Earlier rumors suggested that Nissan would begin offering LeMans-spec racers to privateer teams for the 2010 FIA-GT1 season. New reports confirm that Nissan has produced a NISMO-developed GT-R that will run as a non-championship entry in four races in 2009 in an effort to test the performance and competitiveness of the platform.
Nissan is partnering with Gigawave MotorSport on the GT-R entry along with GT500 driver Michael Krumm from NISMO and Darren Turner from Gigawave to pilot the GT-R during the inaugural season. No word on exactly what events the NISMO GT-R will participate in, but we hope to see a showing at LeMans.
Technical specs on FIA GT Class GT-R haven’t been officially released, but we have have sources telling us that there’s a possibility that the car will receive the twin-turbo V6 in favor of the 4.5-liter VK45D8 V8 developed by NISMO. Power output is expected to be estimated between 540-590 hp with up to 500 lb-ft of torque, and tipping the scales at only 3,000 pounds.
An official press release is listed below outlining the teams and drivers. No annoucments for a possible Grand Am GT-R, but with every automaker “pumping-the-brakes” on their motorsports efforts, and with the current economic situation, we’re not surprised.
